Genomic Characterization and Allelic Variation Analysis of the Rpp1 Locus in Glycine max, a Gene Cluster Conferring Resistance to Asian Soybean Rust
Descrição
Asian soybean rust (ASR), caused by the pathogen Phakopsora pachyrhizi, is a serious threat to soybean production, leading to significant crop losses worldwide. The Rpp1 gene is one of several resistance (R) genes in soybean known to confer some level of defense against this pathogen. However, the Rpp1 gene exists in multiple allelic forms, which may result in different levels of resistance among soybean genotypes. As new races of P. pachyrhizi continue to emerge and spread, understanding how these allelic variations influence disease resistance is essential. By analyzing the genetic diversity of Rpp1 across different soybean accessions, we aim to determine whether specific allelic forms are associated with stronger resistance to particular races of P. pachyrhizi. This knowledge could prove crucial in breeding programs, where identifying robust resistance sources is necessary to develop durable disease-resistant soybean varieties. The objective is to characterize the genomic region containing the Rpp1 locus, a cluster of disease resistance genes conferring resistance to Asian Soybean Rust, caused by Phakopsora pachyrhizi, in multiple resistant Glycine max accessions, with a focus on identifying and comparing the allelic variations and structural organization of this cluster that are associated with resistance mechanisms.
