Projeto de pesquisa, UFABC
Sistema de alerta antecipado de inundações urbanas de alta resolução espacial
Descrição
Urban flooding is a dangerous phenomenon affecting both developed and developing nations, endangering human lives and causing property damage, environmental degradation, and disruption to economic and social activities, including transportation systems and urban mobility. To address this challenge, Flood Early Warning Systems can play a vital role in mitigating flood risks, improving absorption capacity, and minimizing the impacts of hazards, as well as reducing loss of life. In this sense, this project aims to explore the applications of a conceptual prototype for a high-resolution flood early warning system that will identify flood hotspots or zones in the Tamanduateí River Basin, Metropolitan Region of São Paulo. The expected results are geographic information on areas with the highest risk of flooding, offering critical data for an effective response during such events. The project not only advances scientific knowledge in this field but also provides a practical tool to support Civil Defense agents, decision-makers, and policymakers. Furthermore, this project aims to serve as a valuable resource not only for the study area but also for all Brazilian urban centers susceptible to flooding.
